RESEARCH :

1985-1986 Research Fellow, Dept. of Biochemistry
Trinity College; Mentor: Richard Crawford, PhD
Developed an assay scheme to determine the relative tyrosine
hydroxylation activity of tyrosinase and tyrosine hydroxylase
Within a crude tissue homogenate.

1986-1988 Research Assistant, Dept. of Biochemistry
The Rockefeller University, New York, NY
Mentor: R.B. Merrifield, PhD (Nobel Prize in Chemistry 1984)
Synthesized analogs of glucagon via solid phase methodology,
Purified these products via self-designed preparative HPLC set-up,
and studied structure/function relationships via circular dichroism,
biological assays and molecular modeling.

1989 Dean’s Research Fellow
College of Physicians & Surgeons
Columbia University; Mentor: Samuel Silverstein, MD
Completed pilot project examining cytoplasmic peptide fragment
transport/presentation in J774 murine macrophages.

1990-1992 Medical Student Researcher, Orthopaedic Research Laboratory
College of Physicians & Surgeons
Columbia University; New York, NY
Mentors: Anthony Ratcliffe, PhD and Van Mow, PhD
Studied potential biochemical markers of osteoarthritis and
developed an improved sandwich ELISA for keratan sulfate.

1993-1994 Resident Research Fellow, Musculoskeletal Research Center
(MSRC) Mentors: Christopher Evans, PhD and Harry Rubash, MD
Musculoskeletal Institute, UPMC, Pittsburgh, PA
Studied: 1) Gene therapeutics for rheumatoid arthritis, 2) Canine
Model for THA, 3) Peri-acetabular debris migration in THA, and
4) Nitric oxide’s role in aseptic loosening.

1998-1999 Research Fellow, Mineralized Tissue Group
Hospital for Special Surgery, New York, NY
Mentors: Adele Boskey, EA Salvati, and TP Sculco
Studied: 1) Biochemical markers of fibrinolysis in patients after
THA. 2) Designed, synthesized and patented novel osteoblast
adhesive pepitides with potential use in tissue engineering, etc.

1999-2000 Adjunct Scientist, Hospital for Special Surgery, New York, NY
