The Center for Orthopaedic Research (COR) was established in 2003 by Louis U. Bigliani, MD, Chief of Columbia Orthopaedics and Frank E. Stinchfield Professor and Chairman, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons,  to champion cutting-edge molecular biomedical engineering and biomechanical research; provide stimulating laboratory environments for post-doctoral fellows, orthopaedic residents, and students; and advance novel concepts through translational studies that bridge basic science, research, and clinical practice.

Under the guidance of its Director, Francis Y. Lee, MD, the COR team seeks answers and resolutions that will ultimately impact the diagnosis, treatment, and quality of life for pediatric and adult orthopaedic and cancer patients. Biomolecular and biomechanical engineering principles, 3D computer modeling, molecular imaging, in vivo studies, and surgical expertise coalesce to foster improved patient outcomes.
