Print and Electronic Resources
Since its founding, the library has constantly increased the scope and quality of its holdings. Its recently renovated location houses an extensive collection of over 4,000 monographs in all areas of orthopaedics, including recent textbooks, atlases, and self-assessment exams. There are over 1,400 bound periodicals but the current subscriptions to major journals in the field have been largely replaced by electronic access. The collections continue to add printed and electronic textbooks and audiovisual materials, such as DVDs and CDs. The Hibbs Library collections are included in CLIO, Columbia University’s online catalog.
Rare Books
Hibbs Library has a valuable rare book collection on the history of medicine, with special emphasis on orthopaedics. This collection, which includes such rare titles as Andreas Vesalius' De Humani Corporis Fabrica, and Nicholas Andry's L'Orthopaedie is being cataloged and the records are being added to CLIO. Preservation measures are also ensuring that the most fragile books will be put in archival boxes. Since this is an expensive long-term enterprise your contribution would help.
