Fractures of the lateral malleolus (distal fibula) are common, and it can be a challenge to determine the integrity of the surrounding ankle ligaments.  It is crucial, though, for choosing operative or non-operative treatment.  Dr. Greisberg and fellow researchers at Columbia Orthopaedics present their data ligament stability following fibula fracture; the results better define criteria for ligament disruption.  This will better guide surgeons in operative decision-making for these common ankle fractures.
