Columbia Orthopedics sports medicine specialist Lauren H. Redler, MD won the Lance Peters, MD Memorial Biomechanics Award for biomechanics research conducted during her fellowship year at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in collaboration with Dr. Beth Shubin Stein, a Columbia Orthopedics residency alumnus. The awarded research project was published by Arthroscopy and titled “Anisometry of Medial Patellofemoral Ligament Reconstruction in the Setting of Increased Tibial Tubercle-Trochlear Groove Distance and Patella Alta.”

The award was established by the HSS Alumni Association is presented each year to an alumnus who has completed research under the mentorship of the HSS Biomechanics Research Faculty. Awardees are selected by a selection committee that includes two orthopedic clinical scientists and two biomechanic scientists. Past recipients include Mark M. Dolan, MD; Danyal H. Nawabi, MD; Michael B. Cross, MD; Albert O. Gee, MD; Patrick C. Schottel, MD; and Lucas S. McDonald MD, MPH, LCDR MC USN.

I am honored to receive this award for a project that was truly a group effort and led by my mentor Dr. Shubin Stein," said Dr. Redler. "I am forever grateful for her guidance and teaching. She instilled in me a love of patellofemoral surgery.

Dr. Redler will be presented a plaque commemorating this significant achievement at the 100th Annual HSS Alumni Meeting in October. More details on her research's findings can be found here.
