Headshot of Dr. Christen Russo

Dr. Christen Russo is the president of the Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society (RJOS), which is dedicated to promoting the professional development of and for women in orthopaedics throughout all stages of their careers.

In this video profile, RJOS highlights the ongoing DEI work of Columbia Orthopedics under the leadership of Chair, Dr. William Levine, to attract, promote and maintain women physicians in the field.

On Tuesday, March 7, 2023--the eve of International Women's Day--RJOS celebrated it's 40th anniversary by introducing the organization's new president, Dr. Christen Russo, Associate Director of Columbia Orthopedics' DEI program. Addressing the packed ballroom, Dr. Russo outlined her goals for the Society, include raising the organization's profile so women in every single medical school know the benefits of membership and to mentor them into orthopedic surgery. Outside of her clinical practice, Dr. Russo is focused on quality improvement, mentoring, diversity & equity in orthopedics and bone health.

Catch Dr. Russo on a recent episode of the AAOS Bone Beat Channel Career Podcast. From gender representation and reproductive rights to advancing careers, all topics are on the table--and, in an interesting twist, Dr. Russo is interviewed by Liana Tedesco, MD, podcast host and NYOH Chief Resident.
