In the 1990s, Thomas S. Bottiglieri, DO, was a linebacker, until one hit changed everything.
He wasn’t knocked out, but just stopped moving for a moment. A neurologist confirmed a severe concussion, and his career was over.That experience never left him.
Today, @docbottsny is Chief of Primary Care Sports Medicine at Columbia and @nyphospital, and he’s spent his career making sure other athletes don’t fall through the same cracks he did.
His team developed ProScope, an eyetracking tool that detects a subtle head and neck tremor present in concussed patients with over 80% sensitivity. For the first time, clinicians can objectively measure what was previously undetectable.He recently sat down with the NYP Advances in Care Podcast to tell the full story.
