Why did you choose Columbia orthopedics?

There are many aspects of Columbia Orthopaedics that drew me to this program in particular. Most importantly, there is a real collegial relationship between residents of all years and residents and attendings. Everyone is approachable for guidance, mentoring, clinical questions, etc. Also, every major subspecialty is well represented and so I felt like I had abundant opportunities to pursue interests that I may develop during residency in any subspecialty that I chose to go into. Finally, as someone who is interested in remaining in academics, there are unlimited research opportunities that are easily accessible and with a track record of productivity.

Why did you choose Columbia Orthopedics?

It can be difficult to sift through the myriad orthopedic programs as many residencies appear great on paper. This becomes more challenging if you did not attend the program's medical school or were not able to rotate at their program. As a non-rotator I knew Columbia was a reputable program with an excellent history, however, my interview weekend solidified my decision to rank this program number one. On interview day, I observed the genuine camaraderie among the residents and between residents and faculty. I learned about the abundant resources available for research in every specialty. Through conversations with residents and alumni I listened to stories about how mentors at Columbia have shaped them to be better surgeons and leaders each and every day through their dedication to excellence. Now, as a Columbia Orthopedics resident, I am thrilled and proud to be a part of such an outstanding program and community!

Why did you choose Columbia Orthopedics?

I came to Columbia as a fourth year medical student rotator and felt immediately at home. From the residents to the faculty, I knew it was a truly special group of people. Even as a visiting medical student, I felt like part of the NYOH family, and I’m so excited that now, as a resident, I get to be a member of this incredible organization. I am proud to be part of a program with a strong emphasis on resident education, teamwork, and mentorship. I ranked Columbia first because everyone – with leadership from Dr. Levine – is invested in making NYOH a place where residents grow. Our program’s commitment to residents, shown through mentorship, world class teaching, and unparalleled research resources, allows our residents to realize their full potential. Plus, nothing beats five years in New York City!
