Our Mission

In 1911, Columbia professor and orthopedic surgeon Russell A. Hibbs performed the first spinal fusion surgery for paralytic scoliosis. Since then, the spine experts at Columbia Orthopedics and the NewYork-Presbyterian Och Spine Hospital have continued to develop and apply innovative therapies backed by the latest clinical and basic science research to treat and heal disorders of the neck, upper back, and lumbar spine.

Our world-class physicians specialize in surgical and non-surgical treatment of spinal deformities, acute injuries, and degenerative conditions of the spine. Using the most sophisticated diagnostic tools, in-depth clinical experience backed by the latest research, and advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques, our specialists create personalized treatment plans for patients suffering from all manner of conditions.

Expert Care

Many spinal conditions respond well to non-surgical treatments and our providers work closely with specialists in pain management, physiatry, and rehabilitation to develop the best possible treatment plan for every patient. When surgery is indicated, our team utilize innovative and proven techniques that seek to reduce operative time, improve outcomes, and minimize surgical intervention.

Our surgeons operate at NewYork-Presbyterian Och Spine Hospital, one of the world's most advanced spine care centers. As faculty members at Columbia University's Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons they are also at the leading of edge of medical reaserch, they incorporate the latest academic thinking into patient care.
