Chima D. Nwankwo, MD
- Assistant Clinical Professor
Chima D. Nwankwo MD, also called "Dr. Chima" by patients, colleagues, and hospital staff, is a fellowship-trained and board-certified (ABOS) orthopedic trauma surgeon practicing in Park Slope, Brooklyn, New York. He currently serves as the division head of orthopedic trauma Surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital and an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Columbia University. Dr. Nwankwo has expertise in the orthopedic management of patients with life and limb-threatening injuries from accidents, falls or assaults and he is at the cutting edge of using minimally invasive/percutaneous treatments for treating broken bones.
Dr. Nwankwo completed an undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of California Berkeley and received his Doctor of Medicine at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). He completed a residency program in orthopedic surgery at the San Francisco Orthopedic Residency Program (SFORP at St. Mary's Medical Center). He received fellowship training in orthopedic trauma surgery at Allegheny Health Network/Allegheny General Hospital, a regional Level-1 Trauma center in Pittsburgh, PA, and completed an AO Trauma fellowship during the same year.
Dr. Nwankwo is an expert in pelvic and acetabular surgery, hip fracture surgery, complex long bone injuries, periarticular reconstruction around major joints in the upper and lower extremity, nonunion and malunion fracture repair, traumatic limb deformity correction, management of neglected fractures, treatment of bone infections (osteomyelitis), and acute and elective hip replacements.
Dr. Nwankwo is a member of the Orthopedic Trauma Association, AO Trauma, and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS).
